Plainsight Security Pulse is our routine vulnerability scanning service. We scan your internal estate, your external footprint, or both, on a schedule that suits you, and turn each scan into a plain-English report reviewed by a person, not just a raw tool printout.
A penetration test and a Cyber Essentials assessment are point-in-time. Pulse fills the time in between: it tracks how your exposure shifts as software ages, patches slip and infrastructure moves, and shows the trend clearly from one report to the next.
It sits alongside our other services rather than replacing them. Many clients pair Pulse with annual penetration testing and Cyber Essentials certification: certify the basics, test in depth once a year, and keep watch in between.

Is vulnerability scanning the same as a penetration test?
No. Scanning is automated and runs on a schedule to catch known vulnerabilities and missing patches across your estate, with the results reviewed and explained in plain English. A penetration test is hands-on: a tester actively tries to exploit weaknesses and chain them together the way a real attacker would. The two work well together, and many clients use routine scanning between annual penetration tests. Compare with penetration testing →
Should I scan internally, externally, or both?
External scanning looks at your internet-facing footprint the way the outside world sees it. Internal scanning uses a lightweight agent on your devices to find issues inside the network, such as missing patches and insecure configuration. You can choose either on its own, or both together for the fullest picture. The price depends on which you pick.
How often will I get a report?
Whatever suits you: monthly, quarterly, or every six months. More frequent reporting gives finer detail and faster feedback on the fixes your team has made; less frequent keeps the cost down. You can review the frequency at renewal.
Is the price based on how many devices we have?
No. The price is fixed for the agreed scope and is not calculated per device or per IP address. If your infrastructure changes materially during the contract, we may review the price to match the new scope.
Do you fix the vulnerabilities you find?
Routine scanning finds and reports vulnerabilities and shows how they change over time; it does not include remediation, patching, or exploitation. Your own team or IT provider carries out the fixes, and the next scheduled scan confirms whether they have taken effect.
Is there a minimum term?
Yes. Plans run on a twelve-month commitment. You can pay monthly, or pay for the full year in advance and save 10 per cent.
